How to Complain about Wrong UPI Transaction and Refund Process 2024
Wrong UPI Payment Refund Process: While transferring money from UPI, sometimes by entering the wrong account number, money gets transferred to the wrong account. Due to the increasing trend of Internet banking, such problems are increasing. If you have made a mistake in UPI or net banking and sent money to the wrong account, then follow the steps given below.
Let me tell you that if money is transferred to the wrong account by mistake, you can get it back within 48 hours. For this, you just have to call a number or complain online and then go to your bank to complete the process. Note that you have to make this complaint within 3 days of sending the money. As per RBI instructions, if you send money by mistake, you can get a refund within 48 hours. Come, and let us know about this process.
First of all, inform UPI App Support
Send a message to the support of the UPI app you use. Contact the customer care of Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or other UPI apps and inform them that you have accidentally sent money to the wrong UPI ID. If you are not able to get assistance from UPI customer service, you can complain online to NPCI. The procedure for online complaints to NPCI is explained below.
How to complain to NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India)
- First of all, go to the NPCI website https://www.npci.org.in/what-we-do/upi/dispute-redressal-mechanism
- Here in the Complaint section, select the Transaction option.
- Then like the transaction, select Person to Person (from your bank account to another person’s bank account) or Person to Merchant (from your bank account to another person’s business account).
- Now in the Issue tab, select the option Incorrectly transferred to another account. Submit your complaint by giving information like Transaction ID, Bank Name, Virtual Payment Address (VPA), amount, Date of Transaction, mail ID, Registered Mobile No, etc. For more information watch the video given below.

BHIM, a mobile payment app set up by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), provides a complaint/query/feedback portal called ‘Get in Touch’ for its users. For UPI-related help, you can contact the following UPI helpline numbers:

UPI users can get solutions to their problems or queries by calling these numbers. If your problem is not resolved in NPCI, you should immediately contact your bank.
Follow this process if the money goes to the wrong account through UPI or Net Banking
1. Call immediately: If money goes to the wrong account through UPI or net banking, then complain immediately on 18001201740.
2. Inform your bank: After calling, go to your bank provide them complete information, and complain in writing. Which includes information like transaction reference number, date, amount, and the wrong account to which the money was transferred.
3. Get help from RBI: If the bank does not cooperate, file a complaint at rbi.org.in. As per RBI instructions, the bank should provide the refund within 48 hours.
4. Keep messages safe: The message received after payment holds the PPBL number, which may need to be entered at the time of complaint.
5. Be careful: Always confirm the account number and recipient information when transferring money. And after sending money, preserve the attached information, such as messages.
