Who is Fatima Shaikh: Fatima Shaikh along with social worker Savitribai Phule worked a lot on the education of girls and Dalits. Once when Savitribai Phule fell seriously ill, Fatima Shaikh alone took charge of the entire school. Today is Fatima Shaikh’s birthday. On this occasion, know the story of Fatima Shaikh which did not find a place in the pages of history.
Fatima Shaikh Birth Anniversary
On 3 January 1831, a girl was born in Satara district of Maharashtra, who later became the first female teacher of this country. I am talking about social worker Savitribai Phule. Last week the whole country celebrated her birthday and appreciated her work for girls. Of course, Savitribai Phule has done a lot for the girls of the country. If she were not there, perhaps no one would have even talked about the education of girls, but a lot of people supported Savitribai Phule in this work, which perhaps did not get the place in the pages of history that she should have got. One of those names is Fatima Shaikh. Most of you would have hardly heard her name before 09 January 2022 because when Google gave Fatima Shaikh a place in its doodle on her 191st Birth Anniversary, then people’s attention went towards who is this Fatima Shaikh? And then people started searching for her on Google.
The first Muslim woman teacher of the country:
Exactly 193 years ago, on 09 January 1831, Fatima Shaikh was born in Pune, Maharashtra. Fatima Shaikh is known as the first Muslim woman teacher. When Savitribai Phule was working on the education of girls with her husband Jyotiba Phule, and was planning to open a school for girls. Then Fatima Shaikh and her brother Usman Sheikh came forward to support them, and then the process of educating girls began.
Fatima Shaikh’s brother had given Savitribai a place in his house:
To teach children, Fatima Shaikh also took training to become a teacher and motivated people to educate girls. With time, things started changing and people started educating their daughters. It is said that when Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule started talking about education of Dalits and women, their family members got angry with their work and threw them out of the house. Then Fatima Shaikh’s brother Usman Sheikh gave shelter to both the spouses in his house.
Fatima Shaikh did not get the right place in the pages of history:
It was Usman Sheikh who had talked to Savitribai Phule about teaching girls from her house. It is said that Fatima Shaikh’s house was the place where the process of educating girls started. And then in the year 1848, the country’s first school for girls was opened at Fatima Shaikh’s house, but sadly, while the works of Savitribai Phule and her husband Jyotiba Phule were praised in the pages of history, Fatima Shaikh’s was wrapped in a sheet of anonymity and left in a corner, and no one even tried to open it, but that Google doodle has once again opened the eyes of all historians and governments. Historians are busy searching for Fatima Shaikh’s story, while governments are now telling Fatima Shaikh’s story to children through books.
