She has also contributed to songs sung by Selena Gomez and Nick Jonas. The single “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy” from Rexha’s 2015 extended play I Don’t Wanna Grow Up had a moderate level of commercial success.

All Your Fault: Pt. 1 and All Your Fault: Pt. 2, two further extended plays by Rexha, were released in 2017. The singles “I Got You” and “The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody)” were once again moderately successful. The songs “Me, Myself & I” with G-Eazy, “In the Name of Love” with Martin Garrix, and “Meant to Be” with Florida Georgia Line have all been successful collaborations for Rexha. The latter song, which peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, is a country crossover hit. The lead track “I’m a Mess” from Rexha’s 2018 debut studio album Expectations, which peaked at number 13 on the US Billboard 200 chart, earned the artist a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist.

Rexha learned to play the guitar and piano on her own and played the trumpet. Rexha participated in a number of musicals while attending Tottenville High School on Staten Island. When she was still in high school, she also joined the chorus. She found that she had a coloratura soprano voice after joining the choir. Rexha cites Kanye West, Alanis Morissette, Lauryn Hill, Coldplay, and the Cranberries as musical influences.

Rexha submitted a song as a youngster to be performed at the annual “Grammy Day” event of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. Rexha defeated almost 700 other contestants to win the “Best Teen Songwriter” prize. She consequently secured a deal with Samantha Cox, a talent scout, who suggested that Rexha take songwriting lessons in Manhattan.
