Los Angeles: According to her attorney, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a settlement to resolve one of the most contentious and protracted divorces in Hollywood.
James Simon, Jolie’s lawyer, told The Associated Press on Monday that the couple had come to a consensus. People magazine was the first to report on the settlement.
“Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt more than eight years ago,” Simon stated in a statement. Since leaving all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt with the kids, she has concentrated on bringing their family peace and healing. This is only a single step in a lengthy process that began eight years ago. Angelina has worn herself out, but she welcomes the end of this phase.
The arrangement must be approved by a judge, and no court paperwork have been filed as of yet. According to PTI, Pitt’s lawyer did not immediately respond to an email sent late Monday night asking for comment.
For 12 years, Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, were one of Hollywood’s most well-known couples. Together, the two Oscar winners are parents to six kids.
After claiming that Pitt had been abusive to her and their kids on a private jet flight from Europe. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. A judge declared them divorced and single in 2019. But the couple had to resolve the division of assets and child custody separately.
Jolie filed to have the private judge that the two had hired to handle the case removed from the case due to an unreported conflict of interest. But the judge’s judgment shortly included equal custody of their children. An appeals court dismissed the judge, forcing the couple to start over.
The couple has actively employed a private judge, a growing trend among divorcing celebrities in recent years. Keeping the proceedings mostly under wraps and withholding the arrangement’s specifics from immediate public disclosure.
Pitt, meanwhile, has disclosed some information in a different case he filed alleging that Jolie broke a deal with him to sell him her share of a French winery they jointly owned. The impact of the divorce deal on that case is unclear.
